No, Venerable Brethren, We must repeat with the utmost energy in these times of social and intellectual anarchy when everyone takes it upon himself to teach as a teacher and lawmaker – the City cannot be built otherwise than as God has built it; society cannot be setup unless the Church lays the foundations and supervises the work; no, civilization is not something yet to be found, nor is the New City to be built on hazy notions; it has been in existence and still is: it is Christian civilization, it is the Catholic City. It has only to be set up and restored continually against the unremitting attacks of insane dreamers, rebels and miscreants. OMNIA INSTAURARE IN CHRISTO. Pope Saint Pius X
We live in crazy times, and much of the craziness results from our society’s total onslaught of authority. Some people, understandably horrified by it all, scream, “Burn it down! Please, God, burn it all to the ground!” They may get their wish, and we should shudder. Modernity is a carnival of abominations because that is exactly what moderns want. What these same people – “we” the people, dear reader – would construct from ash heaps now truly liberated by the zombie apocalypse of any vestiges of Christian culture and patrimony is nothing we should hasten with our own wishes. Accelerationism is the End Game of so-called Romantic Christianity. For example, these Romantic Christians look with horror at a modernity created from centuries of attack on the foundations of all authority and proceed to continue to attack the foundations of all authority. Hiding under cover of the very wickedness they materially support they have the temerity to say, “See? Optimism in politics is evil, and I told you so.” Certainly, optimism in liberal politics is foolish and evil. But we shouldn’t concede liberalism as a given. Pouring gas onto a burning house is one way to ultimately “stop” the house from burning, I suppose. It’s just not a Christian option.
Christian civilization is something i come back to often. I saw an edgelord white supremacist belly-aching about other races riding on European coattails. Anything good about european civilization came from christianity. Any other continent, if imbued with the full vigor of a Christian people, would rise to beautiful, remarkable, yet different and distinctly non-european heights. This full global potential has not even begun to be tapped, and the European slide down the slopes away from its dizzying christian heights has been remarkable and sad.
The absolute, unmitigated, unequivocal, inarguable root of any christian civilization—the first shovel in the ceremonial groundbreaking, the scissors which cut the ribbon of modernity at the worksite—is that Christ is King, and we must listen to and obey Him. If you want to tap the absolute powerhouse of global potential, you must kneel before the King. And any lesser kings should be kneeling too, or else they stray from Christian civilization, as Henry VIII sought to preserve English civilization by cutting it off from its Christian roots.
The Romantic Christians want, above all, to be CORRECT. All else is post-hoc rationalization that they were correct all along. It doesnt have to make sense, it just has to soothe their fragile egos.
Covid shocked them and everyone because it was an unmitigated exercise of authority from a sovereign they thought they had tamed. And yet, by the bushel, the masses were obliged to stand in line and accept the vaccine, for better or for worse.
That was the second unapologetic domestic exercise of authority in American history, near as I can tell. But it puts the lie to all od this talk—unmitigated exercises of authority get things done. Wouldnt you rather the person holding the reins of power to be a Christian, who kneels before Christ???

David the Barbarian said it best when he said we had tradition but then Joseph Smith stared into a hat and so now, we need to scrap Catholicism. JMSmith’s boomer head exploded when he read that.

Many see it as, either you are resisting or you are doing nothing. For those who see resistance is futile, we are doomed. For most who propose to resist, it is either 4D chess God-Emperor Trump or the super sneaky tactical voting, Benedict Arnold Option.
But as Zippy wrote, we do not need either to resist or do nothing. What we ought to do is cease to empower the modern freakshow. Christianity did not burn down the decadent Roman Empire, but ceased to empower its evils and converted and saved what they could, the ark being the Holy Roman Church.
