Burning Ashes

From a pending comment of mine at the Orthosphere regarding a local newspaper clipping:

JMSmith, please forgive a tangential comment to your interesting post that is more material than perhaps meets the eye. I notice the font, the shape, and the tenor of the newspaper screenshot, and I immediately recognize it as being strikingly similar to many other papers throughout the South. My own home state once proudly offered a newspaper – not without its provincial controversies – that was “locally owned” and could report on issues that were interesting and pertinent to a local community. The local family who owned it made millions and then sold the paper off to a national conglomerate for even more millions. I believe other such stories throughout the South can be multiplied. The national conglomerate did what they seemingly always do – attempt to enlighten us knuckle dragging rednecks by steamroll. They phoned in from who knows where the sorts of PC tyranny they wanted to see and asked their “local” lackeys to print it out. The state paper was clearly no longer of the state; these things cannot be faked to a people who’ve lived in an area for centuries. It was like a Starbucks claiming to be local because they changed the name of their drinks to exhibit regional flair. The newspaper had effectively been destroyed, being little more than a carnival of cultural depravity, WOKE silliness, and the occasional high school and college sports coverage to keep enough of us rednecks interested. It was recently reported physical copies of the paper would cease to be delivered other than “by mail.” Anyway, back to your post my observation and what I advise others to always remember is that “it” – the burnings, the erasures, the topplings, the destruction – will never be enough as long as there is a single smiling non-it out there. Perhaps even then. And what is so sad – back to my own newspaper story – is that I know the destroyers and the accusers collectively do not have the talent or the interests in building up anything of comparative beauty or inspiration. Sad days.

  1. I stopped reading and commenting at the Orthosphere and i regret to say that my life is more peaceful for it. Relatively. Other chaos found me, and anyway i wasnt learning any more. I hope everyone there is well and the community still echoes of the good ol days circa 2018.
