Scoot had a very interesting comment that I’ve been mulling over and wanted to highlight:
“Races are cultural boundaries and on the border is where interesting ideas seep between the cultures.”
I have been fascinated for some time how “existentially” important our acts right here and right now are. In heaven there is neither Jew nor Greek, but there are resurrected bodies of Greeks. Will they not look, well, Greek? Or Dutch or Nigerian or whatever. Saul recognized Samuel. Or perhaps our names here are utterly worthless, rusty and moth eaten.
I imagine they will look greek but in a way that is not the same as greek here on earth. Our bodies are our bodies and if they had race eliminated they wouldnt really be ours, right?
But they will be common in their perfection—and perhaps that means anything divisive between races will be eliminated. We have animosity between races because of their different cultures, but if all races are perfected we will not see anything “different” about them other than accidental properties. They wont be “african” or “greek” or “jewish” because those distinctions wont denote anything different. Idk if any of what I am saying makes sense.
One more try: when we see a blonde or a brunette, we dont stop and wonder how different life must be for them. When we see a greek or a jew, we might wonder how their life has been different in their different culture. In heaven, perhaps greek and jew will regard each other with the same mundane indifference which we have when regarding a blonde or a brunette?
