Let’s stipulate a community and everything that is required to have a community. Thus, Conservatism is the (natural) good desire to preserve one’s traditions, as it is an implicit understanding that community is impossible without meta-tradition. Meta implies authority thus community implies authority thus conservative implies authority.
Today’s community is thoroughly liberal. Thus today’s conservatives by definition authoritatively command liberalism. This is why conservatism as experienced today both sucks and confuses youthful – and very good – tendencies towards conservatism. And all that is why we see all the filth of neoreactionism and fascination with “them.”
This is an excellent descriptor. Conservative says “This neighborhood is nice, lets keep it this way.” Even a neighborhood analogy requires authority and tradition.
Curious what you mean by “neoreactionism”–neoreaction is different I understand it from “traditional reactionary”–but not clear on the distinction.

Scoot,
To me, neoreaction is one part, say, Evola and one part, say, Orthosphere. Brats b$@&ing about how nice the house is while intra-murally fighting over whether the “problem” is the size or the nicety – never realizing the house.

Smith has his panties in a wad because the house isn’t nice enough.
The rest of that bunch because it isn’t big enough.

I just saw your brief exchange with JMSmith at the Orthosphere. Theres a series of posts written by him inspired by theantignostic (who does not appear to be Roman Catholic), about how depressing and terrible the times are.
We really need to pray for these people. Smith is a brilliant mind who doesnt know to what purpose to put his talents—i fear he is burying it underground to keep it safe for the Lord.
This stuff fills me with deep sadness because they have been so helpful and inspiring on my own faith journey but themselves have stopped to rest by the side of the road, and lost hope that there os a new jerusalem at the end of it. Ive passed my heroes on the same road and theres nothing I can do to help.
Our Lady of Good Hope, pray for us.
