Quick Thoughts On Holy Scripture

I was recently reading an article making the claim that both feminist, modernist mothers and their Tradition-minded anti-feminist Catholic counterparts love their children. But – the article continued – it is this intense motherly love and, more precisely, the radically different acts which spring from this love that motivate each mother to view the other as an enemy – as one who does not love her children.

Reading this article – and I have discussed a similar viewpoint as relates to other controversial topics – I began to think of Protestant and Catholic love of Scripture and how each is tempted to view the other as not really loving Scripture. I tend to think characterizing it in such terms is an error. But I also think a large number of folks – mothers and Scripture lovers and otherwise – will be surprised one day to learn just how unfortunately well they loved.

  1. Thered two interesting things about this idea.

1- the perfection of love, which flows from God, is properly ordered to God. It is not true that a mother who, say, indulges her childs gender dysphoria, loves in the same way that a perfectly formed catholic mother loves her children. Theres two kinds of love at play here. One love is the true, highest order of Love which comes from God. One love is merely biological maternity which bestows good feelings and responsibility.

Good feelings and responsibility is what most moderns mean by love. But that is not the same kind of love. The leftist mother has responsibility for her child and thinks good things about them. But by indulging in gender dysphoria, is mutilating her child and doing damage to her own soul.

2- i have an article queued up about ecumenism which i will have to finish. Scripture is interesting because scripture is objectively good. But protestant theology is false. Thats the paradox: how can we relate to the good things about protestantism while simultaneously accepting the doctrine that there is no salvation outside the Church?

Great food for thought! thank you, Wood!
